Cheese!

We have several new cheeses at present, along with the return of some old favourites.

Red Pesto from Holland is an incredible, deep, tomato red colour with a great, sundried tomato and oregano flavour. We also have olive cheese, goat maasdam and spicy Italian provolone.

English stilton, Danish havarti and Spanish manchego are all back in stock and tasting delicious. Just the thing to go with …..

Mulled Wine!

Warm these chilly winter nights (and days) with a glass of hot, spicy red wine. A great accompaniment to some good tasty cheese. Ready to serve mulled wine from Redwood Cellars in Nelson. Just heat, drink and enjoy!

Chia - Aztec Superfood!

About the same size as sesame - Chia is a new Superfood, very rich in omega-3 fatty acids. It also is a source of antioxidants and a variety of amino acids. The health benefits of this amazing little seed are too numerous to detail here – check it out online.

  Our History

The Kaiwaka Cheese Shop is located on State Highway 1, just 20 kms north of wellsford and has been a landmark on the route north from Auckland for a number of years.

The shop was founded in 1989 by Art & Maria who owned the nearby cheese factory. Originating from Holland, it was natural for A&M to start selling Dutch foods and so the shop grew. In time becoming one of a group of six franchises specialising in Dutch cheese and groceries.

Nowadays, the shop is independently owned and operated and stocks a wide range of cheeses from around New Zealand, Holland, France and Switzerland. Gouda is still the mainstay of the cheese range but with over fifty different cheeses to choose from, there is something to suit every tase.
